As society continues to innovate and push the boundaries of technology, it’s important to also prioritize security measures and stay vigilant against cyber threats. Its easy to loose sight and understanding that with each advancement we make,  cyber criminals also are given more opportunities to carry out their activities. With more connected devices and the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), we are seeing more and more everyday devices that are connected to the internet. These devices can include everything from smart home assistants, to security cameras, to medical devices. While these devices can be incredibly convenient, they can also be incredibly vulnerable to cyber attacks if they are not properly secured. One of the best known, examples demonstrating this was from a Distributed Denial Service Attack. In 2016, the Mirai botnet was able to carry out a massive attack on Dyn, a major Domain Name System (DNS) provider, which caused widespread disruption to popular websites and services such as Twitter, Spotify, and Netflix. The attack demonstrated the potential impact that IoT botnets can have on the internet and raised concerns about the security of IoT devices.
